DIY – A fairy tale cape

Hello !

Je suis contente de vous retrouver comme prévu avec la vidéo DIY de ma cape de contes de fées. Après vous avoir partagé tout le processus de création de mon chapeau de sorcière, cette fois-ci je partage avec vous la conception de la cape. Et dans un prochain article je vous montrerais comment j’ai réalisé la robe pour mon costume d’Halloween.

La cape c’est la première chose que j’ai réalisé et qui m’a d’ailleurs pris le plus de temps mais c’est également la pièce dont je suis le plus fière même si ce n’est pas 100% parfait. Pour la réaliser j’ai utilisé la patron d’un ancien magazine Burda seulement j’ai modifié la longueur de la cape car je n’avais pas beaucoup de tissus à paillettes. Au tout départ comme vous pouvez le voir sur mon dessin, j’espérais trouver un joli tissu avec des étoiles mais finalement quand je me suis rendu dans mon magasin de tissus habituel, j’ai eu un énorme coup de coeur pour ce tissu à paillettes qui était dans les mêmes coloris de ce que j’imaginais pour mon costume. J’ai également utilisé un tissu doublure violet et un tissu de coton rose pour les volants. Comme on peut également le voir sur le dessin, au début je pensais également ajouté des volants sur le devant de la cape et puis finalement je trouvais ça « too much » et je pense que j’ai fait le bon choix. Bien sûr je compte bien reporter cette cape. Je l’imagine surtout la porter quand j’irais revisiter un chateau de la Loire avec un jean et un pull en dessous de la cape. J’ai déjà hâte de proposer plusieurs looks avec ce vêtement. Maintenant, j’ai envie de me faire une cape de mère Noël mais on verra si je trouve le temps car j’ai des cadeaux de Noël à fabriquer 🙂

I’m I’m happy to be back today to share with you the DIY video of the fairy tale cape I made for my Halloween costume. After sharing with you the video of the creation of the witch hat I’m now sharing all the conception behind the cape. And next time I’ll share with you how I made the dress for my Halloween costume.

The cape is the first thing I made and it’s actually the thing which took me longer and I’m the most proud about. To realize it I used the pattern of an old Burda magazine. I didn’t alternate much but I made it a lot shorter especially because I didn’t buy much fabric for the one with sequins on. (I’m not gonna lie it was quite pricey ). At first for the main fabric for my cape I wanted one with stars one but instead I got a big crush for this sequins one. The embroideries are beautiful and it was in the exact same colors I imagined in my drawing. I also used a purple lining fabric and pink coton for the ruffles. Like you may see on the sketch at first I thought about also adding some ruffles at the frond but then I thought it would of be « too much » and I think it looks better this way. Of course I’ll wear this cape again. I imagine myself wearing it during a visit to a French castle when I’ll be back in France to visit my family. I think it’ll look nice with a simple pants+sweater combo. I can’t wait to show you more looks with this piece. Now I really want to make a new cape, maybe a Christmas one. But we’ll see if I got the time because I have some Christmas gifts to make. 🙂

  7. Hello Margot, hope you had a great week and good way to celebrate Friday showing us your process behind this piece, actually one of the pieces that are the highlight of your Halloween costume 🙂

    I can’t do more than congratulate you for being so detailed and dedicated about the small details of your processes, seems that it took you a lot of time from the conception of the cape (I really like your sketch for the look) to manufacturing and create it at your workshop…. the work behind the sequins is really good and I liked the shape too, it feels like something that is out a fairytale!

    And obviously after all the work you have to wear it again or maybe do a photoshoot in a castle 🙂

  16. Cette cape est super jolie ! Et j’adore les photos et illustrations qui t’ont inspirée. C’est super de créer ton propre costume plutôt que d’acheter quelque chose de déjà fait et qui ne correspondrait pas forcément à 100% à ce que tu cherches ! 🙂
