DIY – The tailoring jacket

Je suis contente d’enfin vous présenter ma veste tailleur que j’ai terminé de fabriquer il y’a déjà plusieurs semaines mais que je n’avais toujours pas eu l’occasion de vous présenter par ici. Je suis vraiment satisfaite du résultat même s’il y’a des endroits de la veste où j’aurais pu mieux faire et où il faut que je continue de m’améliorer comme les poches passpoilées par exemple, mais dans l’ensemble je suis plutôt contente du rendu de cette veste. Tout d’abord je ne pensais pas réaliser une doublure et au final j’avais vraiment envie de faire quelque chose d’assez pro donc pour un beau fini c’est quand même mieux d’avoir une doublure. Et en plus c’est plus confortable.

Pour réaliser cette veste tailleur j’ai utilisé un burda qui date de juillet 2015, c’est le burda numéro 187. Je n’ai quasiment pas modifié le patronage si ce n’est la forme du col. Je vous montre tout le processus de création dans la vidéo ci-dessous si ça vous intéresse. J’espère que toutes mes explications sont assez claires. En tout cas j’aime beaucoup le modèle de cette veste qui me donne un petit côté boyish que j’adore. Le tissu est un vrai tissu que j’ai acheté chez notre tailleur préféré de Bahreïn. Je pensais en avoir suffisamment pour me faire un short et un pantalon pour accompagner cette veste et finalement je pense n’avoir qu’assez de tissu pour me faire un short et j’utiliserais le reste pour me faire autre chose. Mais, je vous montrerais tout ça dans un prochain article DIY.  Pour la doublure, j’ai choisi un coton vert foncé dans cette fois-ci mon magasin de tissus préféré à Bahreïn. Je préfère le coton à une matière type polyester car souvent les doublures en polyester me font plus transpirer. Et j’ai acheté un lot de boutons dorés sur amazon qui m’ont été bien utiles pour cette veste et qui me seront également utiles pour de prochains modèles que je vais créer.

En attendant de me faire un short pour avoir un costume complet avec cette veste, je la porte ici avec une petite jupe jean, un débardeur noir tout simple et une paire de baskets. Qu’en pensez vous ?

I’m happy to finally share with you the tailoring jacket I made few weeks ago. I’m pretty happy how it turned out even if I still need to improve my technics for the piping pockets for exemple. At first I didn’t want to create a lining to go with it and finally I decided to not be lazy and make something more fancy so then I added a lining. I think it’s a lot better with a lining and It also make the all jacket more comfortable. 

To realize this tailoring jacket I used a Burda magazine. It’s the numero 187 from July 2015. I sut altérante the shape of the collar in this pattern to have something similar to my sketch. I’m showing you all the making process in the video just below. Hopefully my explanations are clear and it could be useful for you. I really like the shape of this jacket which I think give me a boyish look. I found this green and blue plaid fabric in a tailoring shop. It’s actually from our favorite tailor in Bahrain. At first I thought I would of have enough fabrics to make a pair of pants and a pair of shorts to go with this jacket. Finally I think I’ll just have enough to make a pair of shorts and also maybe something else but nothing long like pants. Don’t worry I’ll show you what I make next with this fabric in a next DIY article. About the lining I found it this time in my favorite fabric shop in Bahrain. I’t s a dark green coton. I prefer to use coton than polyester as I think most of the times I sweat more in polyester than in coton. Sorry if it’s not glamour. About the buttons I found them in Amazon. I think they’re pretty cute, There are gold with a tiger face on it. I bought a whole pack of theses buttons so I still have a lot more to make more designs with theses cutes buttons. 

Waiting to make a pair of shorts to go with this jacket and have a suit. I’m wearing it here with a mini denim skirt, a simple black top and a pair of sneakers. What do you think ?

  2. Oooh Margot! What a nice result, and it is so cool to see you in action creating the piece behind the scenes! The process behind a garment is complex and sometimes when people see the price of a piece they got scared but creating something from zero is such a hard work and we can see that in your video.

    I think the result looks like a very nice piece that you could find a really nice store, so kuddos on that! I also think this is one of those blazers that could be used for many years since it is very versatile 🙂

    I’m gonna try to do something in the future, I have a small sewing machine at home but I use for small things, maybe is time to go bigger 😀

      It’s so true. Sometimes when we see a piece in a shop we totally forget how long the process behind a piece can be.
      Yes definitely. I can’t wait to wear in a lot of different ways.

      And I have 2 toy story tee-shirt from this Korean brand. I don’t know if you heard about Spao. I really love this affordable Korean brand. They do a lot of unisex and they collaborate with a lot of license.
