Engagement ring and wedding bands

Aujourd’hui j’avais envie de vous parler bijoux et plus précisément de ma bague de fiançailles. Il y’a deux semaines lors d’une balade dans le souk de Manama à Bahreïn pour qu’hubby se fasse faire de nouveaux costumes, nous en avons également profité pour réparer ma bague de fiançailles.

Today I wanted to share with you the story about my engagement ring. About 2 weeks ago when we were at the souk to make a suit for hubby we took advantages of being there to bring my ring to fix in a jewelry shop. 

J’avais ma bague de fiançailles depuis 3 ans depuis que hubby m’a demandé en mariage, vous pouvez retrouver mon article sur sa demande en mariage ici et voir à quoi ressemblait ma bague avant. Mais je vous ai mis une ancienne photo ci-dessous. C’était une bague en or blanc 14 K avec un beau diamant entourée de cristaux. Il avait choisit la coupe, la taille, la couleur du diamant et tout le modèle de la bague à Busan en Corée du sud.  Je ne pensais pas que quand on achetait une bague, c’était aussi technique. J’adorais ma bague mais depuis un bon moment maintenant il me manquait un cristal sur le côté. En France j’avais été dans une grande bijouterie pour voir s’il pouvait réparer ma bague. Je ne l’avais pas fait réparer car en France on ne monte pas des diamants sur de l’or 14K, on utilise que du 18K qui est plus pur. Mais à l’étranger les normes ne sont pas toutes les mêmes. Donc dans cette bijouterie il ne pouvait pas réparer ma bague comme ils ne travaillaient pas avec des bijoux d’or 14K. Ils auraient pu me reprendre toute ma bague dans un or 18K pour 2000 euros si mes souvenirs sont corrects. Ce n’est pas une decision qu’on prend à la légère donc ils m’avaient renvoyé dans une autre bijouterie, chez Macy’s. Macy’s pouvait me réparer mon cristal mais il m’avait également avertit que je risquais d’en perdre d’autres et le travail allait prendre au moins deux semaines. Je ne restais pas en France assez longtemps pour pouvoir réparer ma bague.Donc finalement plus d’un an est passé sans que je ne perde un autre cristal, sachant que je porte ma bague tous les jours H24. Je ne la retire jamais. Je ne veux pas risquer de perdre un bijou aussi important pour moi quand je fais la vaisselle ou prend ma douche. Et finalement on a emménagé à Bahrain, le pays des perles et de l’or.

It’s been 3 years since I’ve been wearing the engagement ring hubby proposed me with at Disneyworld. You can look for the article of our engagement here  and you can see how my engagement ring was looking like, just below. It was a ring in white gold 14 K with a diamond at the middle with a lot of crystals around it. Hubby picked the size, the cut and the color of the diamond and the model of the ring in Busan in South Korea. I didn’t know a diamond could be so technic. I had no idea when you pick a diamond ring you also pick all the characteristics of the diamond you want. I loved my ring a lot especially because it’s my husband who picked it for me but I lost a crystal on the side of the ring. I was so sad. I wanted to fix it in France but when I went in the most fancy jewelry shop of my city they told me in France they don’t build diamond on 14K white gold. In France they only use 18K gold to build up a diamond. Each country has different standards. So they couldn’t fix my ring in this shop. It would of be around 2000 euros if I wanted to build again my ring in the right gold in a really simple model. Of course it’s not something you decide that easily so they took me to an other shop which was working with 14K white gold. The jeweler told me it would of take 2 weeks to fix the crystal and for him others crystals would of fell off. I was not in France for enough time to fix it so I decided to wait. More than a year flew by and I didn’t lose any other crystals and I wore my ring all the times. I don’t want to take it off when I shower or when I do the dishes because I’m too scared to lose it. And finally we moved out to Bahrain, the country of pearls and gold. 

J’ai toujours rêvé d’avoir une grosse bague de princesse, un peu comme la bague de Lady Diana. Hubby m’avait promis que pour nos 10 ans de mariage j’aurais droit à la fameuse « update » : Vous échangez votre bague contre une plus grosse. Et finalement quand on est allés se renseigner à Bahreïn dans la boutique de Lasheen Jewellery dans le Gold city du souk où il y’a un tas de bijoutiers, on s’est décidé à reprendre ma bague dans un or blanc 18K. On avait pas prévu de mettre autant d’argent ce jour la et de commander 3 bagues en 1 mais on ne regrette pas. Car Bahreïn vaut vraiment le coup pour se faire faire des bijoux en or. Comme à dit hubby autant mettre des diamants plutôt que de rajouter des cristaux comme j’avais initialement sur ma bague de fiançailles et tant qu’on était la autant me prendre également l’anneau de mariage que je souhaitais.  J’ai donc choisit le modèle que je voulais pour  ma bague de fiançailles et nous avions décidé d’ajouter deux anneaux de mariage car je souhaitais avoir deux anneaux qui allaient entourer ma bague de fiançailles pour la rendre plus grosse. Initialement, je n’avais pas d’anneaux de mariage car si vous avez suivi mes anciens articles mariage sur le blog vous vous rappellerez peut-être que je ne souhaitais pas avoir de bagues de mariage tant qu’on ait pas de cérémonie religieuse. Pour moi c’est plus symbolique de s’échanger les anneaux à l’église plutôt qu’à la mairie. Hubby par contre a une alliance en caoutchouc. C’est ce qu’il voulait pour pouvoir la porter au travail. Mais tant qu’on est à Bahrain autant me faire faire mes bagues de mariage que je porterais à vie. Hubby connait le gérant de la boutique donc ça nous a peut-être un peu aidé pour négocier le prix de la bague. Initialement nous avions négocier le prix pour conserver mon beau diamant et ajouter une rangée de petits diamants autour de la bague en or blanc 18K. C’était important pour moi de garder le diamant qu’hubby m’avait choisit. C’était déjà un peu bizarre de ne pas garder la bague qu’il m’avait offerte. Ensuite pour mon anneau de mariage j’ai toujours voulu deux anneaux pour entourer la bague de fiançailles et la rendre plus grosse. Et ils ont réalisé exactement ce que je souhaitais. En dessinant mon modèle il m’a ajouté des petits diamants sur le côté des 3 bagues pour le même prix. Je pense qu’il n’avait pas fait attention. Je n’ai rien dit.

I always dreamed about a big princess ring a little bit like Lady Diana’s ring. Hubby promised me one day around our 10 years anniversary I’ll have an update. And finally when we went to the souk in Bahrain, in the Gold city where there is so many jewelry shops we decided to fix my ring in a better gold 18K. We went to Lashween jewelry because it’s the only one we knew about. Everybody recommend him. We didn’t know I was gonna have the update on my ring that early. It was not planned to spend that much money this day but we decided to get my 3 rings because well Bahrain is really worth it to have your rings made. We decided to have little diamonds instead of crystals and make a wedding band. It would of be a shame to not do the update on my ring here in Bahrain. I picked the model of the engagement ring I wanted. I decided to add one row of diamonds around the diamond I had initially in my engagement ring. It was really important for me to keep the diamond hubby picked for me few years ago. I was even a little bit scared they would of trade it or I don’t know. And I also decided to make 2 wedding bands because I wanted to have the bands going around my engagement ring to make the ring looks bigger. I didn’t have a wedding band even if you’re married since 2 years now. You may remember my wedding articles on the blog where I explained I didn’t want a wedding band yet. I wanted to wait to have a religious ceremony one day to get a wedding band. I thought it was more symbolic to get the wedding band in a religious ceremony than during the ceremony at the court. But well I don’t know if one day we could organize a little religious ceremony like I want so at least now I have the wedding bands I wanted. First we negotiate the price maybe it helped because we knew the owner of the jewelry shop; I don’t know. When the guy at the shop drew the rings I asked for he added some extra little diamonds on the side of my bands for the same price. I think he didn’t realize but of course I let him adding me more little diamonds on my ring.

En toute honnêteté ces trois belles bagues en or 18K et avec pleins de nouveaux petits diamants ont compté moins cher que ce que l’on me proposait en France pour un tour de bague plus simple en 18 K pour soutenir mon diamant (sans compter le prix de mon diamant que nous n’avons bien sûr pas rajouté dans le prix total de la bague. ) Je suis vraiment trop contente d’avoir réparer ma bague. Il y’a quelques jours nous avons récupéré ma bague. J’avais tellement hâte de la récupérer. C’était long une semaine sans sentir ma bague de fiançailles à mon doigt. Je ne savais pas du tout à quoi m’attendre et au final c’est même plus gros que ce que j’espèrais. J’avais aussi un peu peur car on ne sait jamais des fois qu’ils auraient échanger mon diamant ou autre. Mais quand j’ai récupéré ma bague je pense avoir bien reconnu mon diamant et surprise quand j’ai découvert ma bague une semaine plus tard après avoir choisit le modèle, ils m’ont rajouté une deuxième rangée de petits diamants autour de mon diamant initiale. Ce n’était pas prévu mais je suis bien contente d’avoir une bague plus grosse que prévu avec plus de petits diamants pour le même prix. Moi plus c’est gros et plus j’ai de diamants plus je suis contente ! J’ai un certificat qui prouve l’authenticité de l’or et des diamants donc il n’y’a aucune raison que ma bague tourne mal. Je suis vraiment trop contente d’avoir la ou les bagues de mes rêves à l’annulaire de ma main gauche que je vais garder à vie.

To be honest theses 3 rings in 18K gold with new little diamonds all around my initial diamond  cost me less than what they were proposing me in France for a simple band in 18K without counting of course the diamond I had initially in my engagement ring. It’s just been few days ago since I pick up my ring and I’m so so happy with it. I really couldn’t wait to go get it. One week without a ring to the ring finger of my left hand felt so weird. I was excited all week long and of course I was also a little bit nervous because well you never know how it’s gonna turn out. And finally they did exactly what I wanted. I think I recognize my diamond so I was relieved and It even turned out bigger than what I expected so of course I was happy. And I get surprised because they added a second row of little diamonds all around my initial diamond so I was over the moon. They gave me a certificate to prove there are diamond and the gold is 18K so there is no reason it’s not right.
